All About Port Qasim : The Second Busiest Port of Pakistan

A country’s economy benefits from its ports since they facilitate international trade and are a stop for visiting ships, all of which bring new money into the economy. Port Muhammad Bin Qasim is located in Pakistan. The city of Karachi serves as a major gateway for international trade, and its port is the country’s second-largest.

The infrastructure of Port Qasim, which is located on an artificial harbor in the deep sea, has earned it a spot among the world’s top 150 ports. Situated in Karachi, Sindh, it opened to the public in 1980.

How Huge is the Port of M.B.Q.?

Port Qasim Authority (PQA) manages the port’s day-to-day activities, and the territory it encompasses approximately 50 square kilometers.

Situated in the Indus Delta, the Port’s 1,000-acre footprint is combined with the 11,000-acre size of the surrounding industrial complex. It’s located in the Korangi Industrial region, a bit outside of the city itself.

Close proximity to Port Karachi along the Indus River is the primary reason why many people consider the two ports to be interchangeable. The harbor has been split into three sections—administration, trade, and cargo—to facilitate various administrative tasks and commercial transactions.

  •       EIZ – 8,300 Acres in the Eastern Industrial Zone
  •       There are 2,920 acres designated as the North Western Industrial Zone (NWIZ).
  •       SWIZ (South Western Industrial Zone) is a 1,000-acre industrial zone in the region’s southwest

>Pakistan Steel Mill’s bulk raw materials are handled exclusively at Karachi Port Qasim’s Iron Ore Coal Berth, making it one of the port’s most intriguing features. Presently, the Port has a combined total of 18 berths (private and government) that yield roughly 89 million tons each year. Most

Where is the Port?

Bin Qasim Port’s convenient proximity to major shipping lanes facilitates the flow of goods and services during the trading process. This is one of its greatest strengths and the major reason it continues to be Pakistan’s second-busiest port.

The nearest major roads are the Pakistan National Highway (15 km away) and the railroad tracks (14 km away, directly behind the berths). Last but not least, it is only 22 kilometers away from Jinnah Airport Karachi, the largest airport in Pakistan.

What kind of amenities does it provide?

In addition to steelmaking inputs, the Port’s cutting-edge terminals facilitate the import and export of oils, rice, cement, fertilizers, containers, mineral oils, coal, etc.

For Pakistan, Karachi Port Qasim is the key energy center due to the fact that it is the only port in the country capable of handling liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Due to the high concentration of workers and the monotony of daily port life, no amusements or entertainments are available. The only purpose of these facilities is to reduce the effort required of those working on this network as a whole. In most cases, the Port provides services to anchored vessels through:

  •       The Fotco Oil Terminal, a single-berth oil terminal
  •       PQA Multi-Purpose Terminal with Four Berths
  •       Five-berth Container Terminal at Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT)
  •       Engro Vopak Ltd.’s Liquid Chemical Terminal with a Single Berth.

Future expansion plans for Port Qasim Karachi include the construction of a steel jetty, container terminals, and more oil and liquid cargo terminals.

There are also proposals for a GasPort LNG Floating Terminal and a Granada LNG Unit in addition to the above-mentioned coal and clinker processing operations.

Over 80% of the overall manufacturing and assembling factories that aid Pakistan’s Automotive Industry are located in Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, which covers a total area of around 12,000 acres.

As a result of its significance to Pakistan’s economy and trade, as well as the ships that transport the cargo and containers, there has been a surge in interest in the logistics behind this process.

The region is not conducive to a casual stroll. The area may not be off-limits to the public, but it lacks any real amusement venues. When local employees and residents are hungry, they have to rely on the few local food shops and dhaabas that operate in the neighborhood. Additionally, it is situated near a Russian beach in Port Qasim Karachi.

The best way to visit the Port and Trade Handling is with an employee working there, as the area is usually off-limits to the public due to the constant presence of large vehicles and people working with cargo.

Real Estate and Neighborhoods of the Port M.B.Q.

While Port Qasim and the surrounding area are not suitable for living in, they are ideal for commercial investment and establishing a business. Numerous food and textile enterprises have made this area a prime location for their operations.

Plots around Port Qasim in Karachi, Pakistan, start at as little as 54 lacs for an area of 200 square yards. Land prices range from as little as 2 crores to as much as 17 crores, with the greatest price being for extremely large plots of land.

Those looking to establish distribution centers or factories for their companies will find this Port to be an excellent location.

Considering the foregoing, it is clear that Port Qasim in Karachi plays a key and major role in Pakistan’s progress and economic growth. In addition to being the country’s primary energy distribution center, this enormous region also serves as a hub for international trade.
